CRANTON HISTORY AND GENEALOGY

The Margaree River valley, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, is an important cradle of the North American Cranton family, which first became established there in 1794 when Captain Robert Cranton anchored his trading schooner in Margaree Harbor. His only son, Robert, is buried in Margaree Center. His descendants eventually spread out across Canada and the North Eastern United States from that area.
