The Margaree River, Cape Breton, NS, is the cradle of the North American Cranton family which first became established there in 1794, when Captain Robert Cranton anchored his trading schooner in Margaree Harbor. His only son, Robert, is buried in Margaree Centre and his descendants spread out from that area.
The Cranton Family Society held its first reunion at Margaree Centre in August, 2010. The reunion was attended by 80 Cranton's, their extended families and relatives. A huge thank you is extended to all who helped make the event a great success. A special "thank you" to Robert Jones who spent countless hours "growing" the Cranton family tree with the names of hundreds of Cranton's and their relatives. He provided our reunion attendees with the tree, and several historical records, on a CD - a remarkable production.
